French skier Pinturault's season over with broken leg
Alexis Pinturault's season is over as he needs "around six weeks" rest before physiotherapy after breaking his leg in the Kitzbuehel super-G last week, the French Ski Federation (FFS) said on Tuesday.
"The scan confirms a fracture of the internal tibial plateau in the right knee. Alexis will have to observe a convalescence period of approximately six weeks before gradually beginning an adapted rehabilitation protocol," the FFS said.
On Friday, the 33-year-old three-time Olympic medallist hit icy ruts worsened by heavy rain that bucked him backwards and forced him, sliding, into the safety netting in the Austrian ski resort.
Pinturault, making his comeback after rupturing a knee ligament a year ago, was evacuated by helicopter.
"It's difficult to understand, to analyse, to accept," Pinturault said on Instagram on Tuesday.
"I now need time to see things more clearly,! added the three-time world champion and 2021 overall World Cup winner.
After his fall in 2024, Pinturault indicated he had considered retiring but finally decided to continue towards the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
