Belgium extend coach Tedesco's contract until 2026 World Cup
Domenico Tedesco has signed a two-year extension to stay on as Belgium coach until the 2026 World Cup, it was announced Thursday, as the team unveiled a new kit which pays tribute to the comic book hero Tintin.
Tedesco, 38, was appointed as the successor to Roberto Martinez after the 2022 World Cup and led Belgium through an unbeaten qualifying campaign for Euro 2024.
"He had a fantastic qualifying campaign with a new-look team," said Piet Vandendriessche, chief executive of the Belgian football association.
The contract announcement at the Herge museum, named after Tintin's creator, coincided with the launch of a new kit designed using the colours of the intrepid reporter's favourite outfit.
Tintin often wears a blue sweater over a white collared shirt paired with brown trousers, white socks and brown shoes.
Belgium's alternate strip will consist of a light blue shirt and white collar, brown shorts and white socks. The traditional first kit is red.
"As a big fan of Tintin, I'm delighted our Red Devils will go off to conquer Europe with a shirt inspired by one of the biggest Belgian heroes," said Vandendriessche.
Belgium are due to play the Republic of Ireland and England in friendlies later this month.
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is missing from the squad because of injury.
