Rain postpones Fritz-Paul ATP Delray Beach final to Monday
Rain has postponed the all-American final of the ATP Delray Beach Open to Monday, when ninth-ranked Taylor Fritz will face world number 14 Tommy Paul, organizers said on Sunday.
Defending champion Fritz seeks his seventh career ATP title and hopes to become only the second player to repeat as Delray champion after Australian Jason Stoltenberg, the 1996 and 1997 winner.
Paul won his second career ATP crown last week at Dallas and could become the first American with tour-level titles in consecutive weeks since John Isner won at Newport and Atlanta in 2017.
Entering the matchup against his long-time friend, Paul is on a seven-match win streak, tying the best of his career.
Paul and Fritz have a 2-2 record in ATP matches against each other, Paul winning the most recent in last year's Acapulco semi-finals.
Fritz will try to extend his ATP finals win streak to six in a row.
After taking his first title at Eastbourne in 2019, Fritz lost his next four finals but since St. Petersburg in 2021 has won titles at Indian Wells, Eastbourne and Tokyo in 2022 and Delray Beach and Atlanta last year.
