Odermatt bounces back to win Schladming giant slalom
Olympic champion Marco Odermatt came back from a dreadful mistake on the first run to win the World Cup giant slalom under lights at Schladming on Tuesday.
The Swiss skier, who has dominated the discipline for the last three years, had a horrible first run that left him in 11th, some 0.98 seconds off midway leader Manuel Feller.
But he turned it round with a sensational second run to edge the Austrian Feller by 0.05sec.
The Slovenian Zan Kranjec was third at 0.29sec.
Odermatt, the overall World Cup winner for the past two seasons, remains unbeaten in giant slalom for almost a year and has not been off the podium in the discipline since March 2021.
The 26-year-old stays on course for a third successive overall title, extending his lead in the standings to 596 points ahead of Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin who was not competing on Tuesday.
Feller is third in the standings another 146 points back.
The men's action continues on Wednesday with a night slalom, again in Schladming.
