USA striker Vazquez joins Mexico's Monterrey
USA national team striker Brandon Vazquez has joined Mexican club Monterrey from Major League Soccer's FC Cincinnati, the clubs announced on Wednesday.
No details of the fee were given but Cincinnati said that Monterrey had paid a "multi-million dollar fee" with several reports suggesting the figure was around $8 million.
The 25-year-old Californian, who was also eligible to play for Mexico before opting to represent the United States, is Cincinnati's all-time top scorer, having joined the expansion team from Atlanta in 2020.
A traditional center-forward, Vazquez scored 20 goals in all competitions in 2022 and struck 17 more the following season as he helped Pat Noonan's team finish atop the regular-season standings and clinch the Supporters' Shield.
"We'd like to thank Brandon for all his contributions to FC Cincinnati," said Chris Albright, FC Cincinnati general manager.
"He was a centerpiece of the team that brought FC Cincinnati its first trophy, and he will forever be part of the fabric of this club. He's an incredibly talented player and an even better person, and we look forward to his future success. We wish Brandon and his family all the best."
Vazquez made his US debut in a friendly against Serbia in January 2023 and has scored four goals in eight appearances for the Stars and Stripes.
